A normal heart rate in a state of rest is usually between 60 to 100 beats per minute, but it can be more or less frequent than that. People who exercise on a regular basis, thus strengthening their cardiovascular system can have even lower heart rate, because it requires less effort for the heart to sustain a steady beat.

In order to receive accurate results without using any special devices you should place your fingers on one of the places mentioned above, find the pulse, set a timer for a minute and count how many beats you get. You should use four fingers to determine the heart rate and not your thumb, because it has a pulse of its own and it can make the number inaccurate. Also, it is best to count it for an entire minute instead of counting for 15 seconds and then multiplying by 4, because the heart rate can change throughout this minute and not be as even.

People who consume medications to treat high blood pressure may notice the reduction of their heart rate. If you’re taking such pills, make sure you measure your pulse on a daily basis and inform your medical advisor about any changes.

When should you take an action?

It is actually extremely easy to measure your pulse every day, but it can save you a lot of the problems in the future, so don’t ignore this crucial step to remaining healthy.
