The company has 34 full-scale manufacturing facilities and 3 active pharmaceutical ingredients manufacturing plants across India, situated in Patalgana, Bengaluru and Kurkumbh. All the company’s products meet stringent international quality standards.

Cipla makes over 2000 products in 65 therapeutic categories presented in more than 40 dosage forms. It produces 40 billion tablets and 150 inhalers per year. It was the only company that managed to supply America with enough Ciprofloxacin at the time of anthrax scare. In 2005, when bird flu was about to become pandemic, again Cipla was the only company to bring out Oseltamivir within 3 months. It supplies antiretroviral medications to the third world countries in collaboration with Clinton Foundation. All the company’s manufacturing facilities are approved by WHO and American FDA.ciplaThe key products of the company include antidepressants as Escitalopram (trade names Lexapro, Cipralex), erectile dysfunction drugs as generic Viagra (Cialis, Cilagra), anti-flu medications (Antiflu, generic Tamiflu), antibiotics (Levoflox, Cefoprox CV, Cipro, generic Ciprofloxacin, generic Doxycycline), fertility drugs (Clomiphene), antihelminthics (Bendex, Cipex), corticosteroids, antiulcerants, hormone inhibitors (Finpecia and Fincar, generic Finasteride), cardiovascular drugs (generic Atorvastatin, generic Nifedipine, Lisonopril), urological drugs (Uromax, generic Tamsulosin) and nutritional supplements. Cipla revolutionized the world in 2001 offering HIV/AIDS medicine Triomune, a combination of 3 antiretroviral agents in a single pill to be taken once daily.

Up to then HIV/AIDS medicines cost about $1.5 thousand per patient annually. With the invention of Triomune, which costs less than $1 a day, every company producing HIV/AIDS drugs had to significantly reduce their price.The second Cipla revolution was in 2012 when it slashed generic price of 6 cancer drugs by 75%. It offered a generic version of the Bayer’s Nexavar, liver and kidney anticancer drug, at a price 75% below the cost of the original product. Along with generic Nexavar, Cipla also cut down the price for lung cancer agent Gefticip and brain tumor agent Temoside between 60 and 75%. The price for generic Sorafenib, kidney oncology drug, has been cut by 76%.

Among other Cipla’s achievements we should mention its development of Kelfen, the world’s first oral iron chelating agent for thalassemia. Cipla was also the first to introduce Duova, combination of 2 long-acting bronchodilators for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and was the first to combine corticosteroid and long-acting bronchodilator in a breath-actuated inhalator, Foracort Autohaler. Over its history of existence, Cipla has been a champion of generics. It produces more than 200 high quality generic drugs at affordable prices, all qualified for international requirements and satisfying the demands of millions of people all over the world. Cipla Ltd is constantly growing and developing new drug formulations for both already existing and new drug substances, as well as improving processes for existing active pharmaceutical ingredients. Over the last decade it has consistently introduced more than 40 products yearly, has been granted 100 patents and there is much more to come.
