Sleep disorder facts – INFOGRAPHIC

Every person spends about one third of his life sleeping. Nothing promotes good spirits and capacity for work better than a healthy and restful sleep. Sleep is just as essential for the maintenance of good health as regular exercises and diet.

Unfortunately, most probably each of us has encountered various sleep disorders at least once – troubles with getting to sleep or overnight sleep, problems with waking up, etc. The average adult person needs at least an 8-hour night sleep, but the statistics is ruthless – about 74% of Americans get less than 7 hours for their sleep and 40% of Americans face sleeping problems several times per week.

Sleep apnea is one of the most common and very serious sleep disorders causing a person to stop breathing during sleep, so the body becomes deprived of oxygen and that causes waking up (it may happen from several times to several hundred times per night). This condition results in the development of such disorders like hypertension, stroke, heart disease, depression, diabetes, etc. About 70% of Americans with obesity also suffer from sleep apnea.
