Thyroid problems, ranging from harmless goiter to fatal cancer, are the result of abnormal secretion of thyroid hormones. It can be either the excessive production called hyperthyroidism, or insufficient production called hypothyroidism.

Hyperthyroidism can occur due to several reasons: Graves’s disease, toxic adenomas, subacute thyroiditis, pituitary gland malfunction and malignant growths in the thyroid gland.

Although health effects can be uncomfortable and unpleasant, most thyroid problems can be successfully managed if properly diagnosed and controlled. Treatment is usually assigned by an endocrinologist rather than a GP. The overactive thyroid is treated with anti-thyroid medications to stop the gland producing excess amounts of hormones and with beta-blockers to relieve such symptoms as hyperactivity, tremor and rapid heartbeat. The underactive thyroid is typically treated with hormone replacement tablets, which are oftentimes prescribed lifelong. In view of this, your doctor may recommend to buy prescription drugs online as a matter of convenience.
