What is Duricef?
Duricef weakens the cell wall developed by bacteria and thereby causes death of the bacteria. Thus, Duricef works well in treatment of certain diseases which are caused by bacteria. However, it doesn’t work against any disease which is caused by virus. Duricef is one type of cephalosporin antibiotic.
What are the indications for using Duricef?
Some of the common cases when Duricef is indicated are:
- Skin infections which are caused by streptococci.
- Tonsillitis or Pharyngitis that is caused by any Group-A beta-hemolytic streptococci.
- Urinary tract infection caused by P. mirabilis, Klebsiella species or E. coli.
Apart from the aforementioned cases, Duricef is even used as an antibiotic prophylaxis before performing certain dental procedures. Apart from Duricef, metronidazole and amoxicillin are also used as first line of treatment. For treatment of infected wounds of the animals, Duricef is indicated as well. When the powder form of Duricef is mixed with water, it generates a smell similar to that of Tang and it has a color as well.
What is the Recommended Dosage of Duricef?
Though the dosage may vary from one person to another, it should be taken by mouth once or twice in a single day. At certain times, stomach upset may occur after consuming Duricef, so take it with food. Even if you start feeling better after a few days of usage, continue to take this medicine for the number of days prescribed by the doctor. For adults, the dosage is generally 1 gm – 2 gm per day, however, if a person is suffering from any sort of renal impairment, the dosage is lowered. Duricef is available for oral suspension; however, tablets and capsules are available as well. Duricef should be kept at room temperature away from exposure to direct sunlight.
What are the Contraindications for using Duricef?
If you are allergic to any of the ingredients of Duricef, you should not be using Duricef. The medicine should be avoided if you have a history of allergic reactions.
If you have any sort of blood clotting disorder or inflammation, it’s better not to use Duricef.
In case you are pregnant or breast feeding your little baby, don’t use Duricef.
What are the Side Effects of Duricef?
Some of the general side effects of Duricef are: nausea, stomach upset, vomiting, diarrhea etc. However, in certain cases, you may experience hives, itching or rashes as well. You should consult a doctor immediately if the situation worsens over the course of a few days.
