What is Mobic?
The main ingredient of this drug is Meloxicam, which belongs to a large family of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. These medications are capable of reducing inflammation and associated pain and discomfort by blocking the synthesis of certain substances that cause the inflammatory reaction in the body tissues. Mobic is beneficial to patients suffering from joint inflammation due to arthritis, and is used in treatment of conditions like rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. The drug relieves the pain, swelling, and joint stiffness associated with the disease, and allows the patients to regain joint mobility.

What are the indications for using Mobic?
Mobic is mainly prescribed to patients with rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, as well as to children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis. The medication helps to control the symptoms of these conditions, which include fever, painful movement, joint stiffness, and tissue swelling in the joint area.

What is the dosage of Mobic?
This drug is supplied in form of oral tablets, Mobic 7.5 mg and Mobic 15 mg. It is also available as oral suspension with 7.5 mg/5 mL meloxicam. The recommended dosage of the drug in adult patients for osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis therapy is 7.5 mg/day, taken once. In some cases the dose can be increased to 15 mg/day. In children with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis the usual dose of the drug is 0.125 mg/kg once a day, but no more than 7.5 mg/day. The drug is best used as oral suspension in children to ensure accurate dosing.

What are the contraindications for using Mobic?
Hypersensitivity and allergy to Meloxicam, the active component of Mobic, is a contraindication for the drug’s use. The drug also should not be taken by patients who have shown negative reaction to other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

What are the adverse effects of Mobic?
Among the unwanted side effects of Mobic use are diarrhea, indigestion, nausea, and edema. Most of the gastrointestinal side effects can be prevented if the drug is taken with food. Severe side effects are rare for this drug, but be sure to inform your doctor if you develop a serious condition after taking Mobic.
