What is Sumycin?
Sumycin (tetracycline) is an antibiotic drug that fights a number of bacteria types within the body. This is a monograph medicine that can be classified as a protein synthesis inhibitor. To put it simply, it functions by binding itself to microbial ribosomes and prevents the emission of new amino acids, which are essential for bacterial formation.
What are the indications for using Sumycin?
As mentioned before, Sumycin is used for combating bacterial infections. These include:
Respiratory tract infection – an infectious disease such as pneumonia or the common cold which affects the upper or lower respiratory tract. Symptoms include coughing, runny nose, sore throat, fever, etc.
Typhus - a disease that has been plaguing the mankind since the Middle Ages, caused by the Risetta bacteria. In Greek, its name means hazy and corresponds to the patient’s state of mind. Typical typhus symptoms are delirium, rashes, back pain, fever and joint pain.
Cholera - a bacterial infection affecting the small intestine. It is spread mostly through food and water contaminated by fecal matter. Cholera is relatively easy to treat, but failure to do so often leads to death.
Syphilis - a sexually-transmitted bacterial infection, whose symptoms progress over time, becoming increasingly hazardous and even causing death in some cases.

What is the dosage of Sumycin?
Sumycin comes in the form of tablets of 250mg and 500mg. The dosage varies depending on which condition is being treated, e.g. : the standard dose for treating acne is 500mg twice a day, once a day for respiratory infections and four times a day for treating Chlamydia. These pills should be administered orally and must be taken several hours before eating, as food can weaken its effects.
What are the contraindications for using Sumycin?
Sumycin must not be taken by anyone allergic to its substances, pregnant mothers and children under the age of 6. It is also known for its drug interactions. Sumycin is completely incompatible with antacids based on aluminum, magnesium, and calcium. Besides this, iron supplements and dairy products have proved to reduce the absorption of the drug in the body, weakening its effect. In addition, Warfarin and barbiturates are two drugs whose effects are strengthened by Sumycin.
What are the adverse effects of Sumycin?
Diarrhea, headaches, rash, nausea, vomiting, and dizziness are some of the most common side effects listed in medical studies.
