What is Tenoretic?
Tenoretic is an antihypertensive drug which contains two active ingredients. The first one is atenolol; it is a so-called beta blocker. This substance decreases the heart rate, which effectively helps the heart to pump blood easier and reduces its workload; it also helps supply the heart with more oxygen. The second component is chlorthalidone, which is a thiazide type diuretic. This type of substances is also widely used in hypertension treatment. Chlorthalidone decreases blood pressure both due to its diuretic action and because it possesses vasodilatory (blood vessel relaxing) properties.

What are the indications for using Tenoretic?
Hypertension is the condition which is the main indication for Tenoretic use. If the patient has persistent high blood pressure and beta blocker and diuretic therapy is suitable for the patient’s particular condition, the combined drug like Tenoretic provides a convenient means to treat the disease.

What is the dosage of Tenoretic?
Two types of Tenoretic oral tablets are available: Tenoretic 50 contain atenolol 50 mg and chlorthalidone 25 mg, while Tenoretic 100 contain atenolol 100 mg and the same 25 mg of chlorthalidone. The usual dose of the drug for hypertension therapy is one Tenoretic 50 tablet a day. In case where the initial dose is not enough for optimal therapeutic response, the dose is increased to one Tenoretic 100 tablet a day.

What are the contraindications for using Tenoretic?
The use of this drug is not recommended by patients who have at least one of the following conditions: bradycardia (abnormally slow heartbeat), anuria (extremely low urine production), heart block (disease, associated with the heart’s electrical system disorder), allergy or hypersensitivity to the ingredients of the medication.

What are the adverse effects of Tenoretic?

Some patients may experience mild side effects of the drug’s use, including dizziness, fatigue, bradycardia, hypotension, nausea or lightheadedness. Most of these unwanted effects are temporary and reversible and should not create too much discomfort for the patient.
