What is Zyvox?

Zyvox is an antibiotic drug used for treating various infections that are caused by Gram-positive bacteria. It is part of a class of drugs called oxazolidinones. These are protein synthesis distributors, which are effective in disrupting the growth and reproduction of bacteria. Zyvox is a completely synthetic drug developed in the 90’s and approved in 2000. It has a hefty price tag but has proven to be more cost-effective than countless other antibiotic drugs on the market.

What are the indications for using Zyvox?

  • Hospital- and community-acquired pneumonia – an illness caused by bacteria, usually centered in the respiratory tract. Symptoms include fever, chest pains, cough, and difficulty breathing.
  • Skin infections – usually caused by Staphylococcus aureus or Streptococcus and spreading through direct or indirect contact. Sores, blisters, and swollen glands are typical symptoms.
  • Diabetic foot – a complication of diabetes mellitus caused by bacteria and characterized by ulceration, infection, or Neuropathic osteoarthropathy.

What is the dosage of Zyvox?

What are the contraindications for using Zyvox?

Zyvox is known to interact with Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors and Adrenergic and Serotonergic Agents. If you are on such drugs, you should consult a doctor before taking  Zyvox.
