Stomach Problems

Stomach is one of the most important organs of human digestive system, without which healthy state of the body is simply impossible. Common digestive problems include heartburn, gastro-esophageal reflux disease, irritable bowel syndrome, functional disorder, Crohn’s disease, peptic ulcer, gastritis, inflammatory bowel disease, achylosis, pneumatosis, benign GI neoplasm, gastric cancer. However, every disease has its exciting cause and stomach problems are no exception.

Stomach problems causes
The leading causes of stomach disorders are:
•    Dietary regimen irregularity;
•    Consumption of poor quality food or products that lie on stomach;
•    Overeating;
•    Swallowing without food-mulling;
•    Spicy food abuse;
•    Junk food addiction;
•    Unvaried hypoalimentation.

Stomach problems symptoms
In order to identify the problem, one should learn the most common symptoms, which may include:
diarrhea,  bloating, gas, stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting, belching, heartburn, bad taste, appetite disorders, constipation, jaundice.

Among other things it is important to mind the temperature of the food we are eating. Thus, its temperature mustn’t be below 7° and above 70°. The thing is that due to too cold food the stomach excretory function and intragastric acidity increase. Whereas too hot food leads to gastric mucosa atrophy. All this may result in major stomach illnesses.

Stomach problems diagnostics

Gastroscopy, radioscopy and blood tests are the three major diagnostic methods of stomach problems. In order to detect a problem and arrive at diagnosis, gastroenterologist may have you undergo certain tests. For example, to exclude stomach ulcer caused by H. pylori you will have to submit to a blood, breath or stool test depending on your situation. Or your upper digestive system may be examined with a scope – endoscopy, or X-rayed after a barium swallow.

Stomach problems treatment

When accurate diagnosis is ensured, your doctor will prescribe you the treatment. As a rule treatment depends on the cause and may include:
•    Antibiotics to kill H. pylori, such as tetracyclines, macrolides and nitroimidazoles;
•    Proton pump inhibitors to block acid production and promote healing, such as Aciphex, Prilosec, Prevacid, Nexium and Protonix;
•    Acid blockers or histamine(H-2) blockers to reduce the amount of stomach acid in the digestive tract and relieve stomach pain, such as Zantac;
•    Antacids to neutralize stomach acid and provide pain relief;
•    Cytoprotective agents to protect the lining of stomach and small intestine, such as Carafate.

Treatment usually involves dual therapy and eliminating factors that may interfere with healing, including lifestyle changes. And what is more, one should timely consider symptoms our body signals to us and shouldn’t ignore routine checkups, as our health and life may depend on these timely measures.
